Abstract

In the second quarter of 2008, the Taiwanese smart cellular device industry was impacted by inflation caused by high oil prices and weakening demand for high-end mobile phone models in mature markets such as Europe and the United States. Shipment growth momentum came mainly from the iPhone outsourced by Apple. Although Taiwanese smart cellular device shipment volume is estimated at 7.16 million units in the second quarter of 2008, up 131.5% year-on-year and 16.2% sequentially, the shipment growth of major Taiwanese makers slowed down, and shipments were dominated by the iPhone.
